Logging into Refworks
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.- Go to Refworks from the Bath Spa Library Electronic Services page or directly from http://www.refworks.com and follow the link to Login
- On the login screen, follow the link to Athens Users and log in to Athens.
- You will now be logged in to Refworks and asked to create a personal Refworks account.
- To access your account, always log in using the Athens link.
(No ‘group code’ is required).
Creating folders in Refworks
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.- Click on Folders | Organize Folder
- Click on Create New Folder
- Name it Viruses and click on OK
- Create another folder called Assertiveness
- In Quick Search, search for flu
- Select all in list
- Add to the folder Viruses
- Click on Search | Advanced
- Search in the abstracts for ‘assertiveness’ and publication year ‘2005’
- Import ‘All in the list’ direct to the Assertiveness folder
Importing references directly from Academic Search Premier

http://www.refworks.com/content/products/direct_export.asp). Check the RefWorks online help for detailed instructions for a specific vendor.
- After selecting the EBSCO database(s) you wish to search, conduct a search on Influenza.
- Select several records to import by clicking on the Add link to the right of the records you wish to add.
- Click on the Folder has Items link.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to RefWorks.
- Click the Save button.
- Your records should be imported into your Last Imported Folder in RefWorks.
Import references from the Bath Spa Library catalogue

- Choose a library catalogue from the alphabetical drop down list (your own, or a National Library?)
- Do an Advanced Search for the Descriptor: Influenza
- Import ‘All in the list’
- Close the Search results and return to RefWorks
Publish your bibliography using Refworks
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.- Open Word and type the following text:
- This document will help you understand how to create a bibliography quickly and efficiently when Write-N-Cite plug in is not available. (This can happen when working from machines other than your own or off campus).
- Login to RefWorks
- Do a quick search for “assertiveness”
- Choose the One line / Cite view
- Choose a reference and click on Cite
- A box will open with the citation number properly formatted as a Refworks citation marker. Select everything in the window and save to clipboard
- Place your cursor where you want the citation to appear in your text and paste this citation into your word document
- Repeat the previous steps with another citation, or multiple citations, placing them elsewhere in the text
- Close and save your document as RWtraining2.
- In RefWorks click on Bibliography
- Choose Harvard British Standard
- Tick Format Paper and Bibliography
- Browse to your Word file as the Document to Format
- Click on Create Bibliography
- You now have a second document, with proper citations and formatted bibliography. Save as RWFinalHarvard
